2.2L burning a Celica? naw... [Archive]

The other night I was coming home from work and was going down the street at 45 mph (the speed limit), and this little ricer boy came out of nowhere with a new Celica. Now, my truck with my intake and Flowmasters can't beat chit, but this was different. He flew past me at about 55 and slowed down to ensure that I wanted to go. I was like,"bring it little rice biatch!" So we came up to the next stop light and I ran my engine at about 3000 RPM. When the light turned green, I dumped the clutch at squeeled out of there. We were neck and neck until i scratched second gear and then I pulled away from him. He was only like half a car behind me when I grabbed third gear, and I looked behind me in my drivers side mirror, and all I see is a bird in his window (the middle finger, if you didn't know). It was awesome because usually I can't beat anything worth crap, so I was in an awesome mood.

Could have been a GTS w/a sh!tty driver. I rode in one and wasn't too impressed. I know I could pull on one in 1st and 2nd. They don't get outta the hole very quick (stock that is). Its the higher RPMs that those cars move in. Unless of course the kid that was driving around in it w/me didn't know what the shift points were, which is possible!!

I got to Drive a 2000 GTS today. The interior is nice. But they are ugly as **** on the outside. It was a 5/6 speed too. It seemed nice, I didnt get it too fast.

We did a deck, amp, 4 in it too. :D :cool:

They have no torque whatsoever IMO.
If I remeber right the non GTS Celica has 120f/p at 3-4k (?).

Sorry but a 6 speed gts will run low 15s or even very high 14s stock. Even with a bad driver it should still win unless you run high 15s low 16s then i could see it, thats cool..

By the way I hope your truck has more torque than a celica or else your in trouble.. ;)

Yeah with like an awesome driver maybe you might get that but the most of us can't do something like that. Hell, some guy ran a 12.8 with a bone stock 2000 SS Camaro on street tires in 90+ degree heat :rolleyes: My friend has a 2001 Z28 which has a ton of bolt-ons, not to mention it came stock with a LS6 intake which gives it close to another 15 hp than a 2000 to start with. His car made 346 hp and 360 ft lbs of torque to the rearwheels and he only ran a 13.5 on street tires at 107.

They are capable of hitting mid to low 15's, but 14's I can't attest to. I see alot of cars running at Fireturd and I did see a 2001 GTS run a mid 15 twice. He was some asian kid that supposedly had drag racing experience from Japan. Sure he did...:cartman: :rolleyes: :)

My point exactly what do you run in your truck stock like high 16s low 17s?? They probably pull 15s or very low 16s. There are several memebers on Csi that have 6 speed celicas running very low 15s stock. Timeslips and all check it out if you dont believe!

Well, if that is true then what you are saying is that if I smacked this guy around like a step child then I am running high 14's any other place in the country. I might be that fast with good air and all, but I really doubt it. I can say I ran a 12 post a few time slips that may or may not be mine and post them on a website and just tell everybody that you have a bunch of stuff and they for the most part will believe you. I would have to see one run that to believe it. Not to be an ass, I just don't buy it.

hell i could beat a ferrari in a pinto if the ferrari driver was ****ty enough. (given it would take a lot of ****tyness) as for the celicas, yeah they run mid to low 15s with any kind of have ass decent driver. a good drive can pull high 14s. believe it or not, just the way it is. about the torque issue on imports and domestics. i finally figured it out, its those damn big ass engines you guys stuff in there. after all this time of wondering why a 4.3 has more torque than a 1.8 and less liter engines. it all makes sense now. oh not to mention trucks are made for hauling stuff. j/k guys, do go kossuth on my ass. its not impossible for a 2.2 to win. if it was a short race, the torque will help in the 2.2. also, it the celica isnt used to launch their car or doesnt know how, thats even more of an advantage. anythings possible but with a good driver in the celica, it wins. anyways, good kill.

yeah they come in auto but it sucks. i bet a GT celica 5 spd could hang with a GTS auto. its got that paddle shifter stuff but it still sucks. performance cars should come with a manual tranny period.

Come on now, I think that is an embellishment. I am sure you can take a Saturn, a Geo, any Civic that's not charged, juiced, or an Si, and so on. Just not many sport cars can you take. L8erz...

I think what the two honda guys neglect to see is that it is also fwd vs. rwd. If that tool missed a shift thats even worse. Rear will always get off the line faster. I beat almost all fwd imports for about 20 yds, if there faster they catch up, if not they go home and wonder why there 500 dollar fart can wont let them catch up...... :) :) :)

I don't see an awesome driver taking a Civic SI or something like that and beating an LS1 reguardless of how sad the driver is, with the exception that they can't shift gears or heaven forbid it is an auto and they can't find D or don't know to press the gas pedal when racing.
