Not S-related, but hey it's still within the GM family.
Last weekend I had to take my grandfather's 89 GMC C1500 up to my uncle's house to drop it off so he could weld in a new cab corner. My uncle lives about 60 or so miles away so it wasn't just right around the corner. I got just about 10 miles from there and I started to smell something, looked down and the oil pressure gauge was pegged all the way on the high side. I pulled over into a gas station and checked the oil, it was about a quart low. Now I know Pop just had the oil changed a month or so before that with Quaker State and it really hasn't been driven anywhere, and it's also not leaking it. The truck has a 350 with about 122,000 miles on it and it doesn't smoke any with the exception of a little puff of blue smoke on cold startup (GM valve seals). So why it was a quart low is beyond me. Now here's the kicker: the oil that was in it was actually burnt, meaning it scorched the dipstick and I couldn't wipe it completely silver again. WTF  I added another quart to it and went on my way, and the gauge went back to normal. Now I know the truck didn't overheat any, I kept an eye on all the gauges and they all stayed where they were supposed to be except for when I noticed the oil pressure problem. WTF could cause that, cheap oil or something? I guess I should've checked the oil before I left, but I didn't think it'd be necessary since it was changed not too long ago. I hope I didn't hurt anything :(
