Louisville must be the capital for faking an SS, for the 2nd time this week I've seen the same 'ss' S-10. THis is the second fake ss I've seen, next to the ext. cab one I saw too.
Specs:
98+
chrome grill
stock wheels (non-ZQ8 or other)
stock suspension
rollpan
Red 'SS' badging
Silver 'Chevrolet' badging
from my knowledge, this constituses a fake SS, unless the person when through alot of trouble to de-SS and SS...and that would raise the question of why?

98 was the last year for the SS, and I think it might have had the chrome grill, although I think it was only a monochrome grill like the Xtreme. Stock wheels are a dead giveaway, as is ride height........People around here are addicted to the "SS" naming, and think everything should have it....I've seen several Cavalier SS's around as well as some Venture SS's.......It's a plague that comes with the mentality of this area.....I wouldn't be surprised to see more on your end of town than mine though, those rednecks LOVE the SS badging :D

I knew that 98 was the last year...and I wasn't sure about the grill. However, once I saw the wheels and ride height..I knew for sure

I hate it when people try to make a fake Xtreme.

the only thing that is special on the SS is the VIN and the badges
who cares?

well actually yes the vin # identifies the truck
but I dont think anyone out there could look at the vin and tell for sure if its a true SS or not
the RPO (B4U, got to be the coolest RPO ever) code in the glovebox is actually what would be the giveaway

he meant wasnt actually a better vehicle like the camaro ss or z06 or something

but they are still cool and I would love to own one

:horsey: Yes, but at least you did a good job of it. I was talking about the guys that leave them stock height and put the body kit on them.

Yours is sweet though cause I think you changed out everything to make it just like a factory one right. Skirts, wheel flares, steering ratio, rear sway bar, did you do badging? and leather steering wheel? Anyways you went and did it right:D And looks good:D

It was a ZQ8 truck to start with, so the truck already had the suspension and steering box. I got a complete Xtreme kit for the cab, and a new bed with the kit already on it in the right color. I've swapped over to the leather steering wheel, as well as the factory fog light switch. The badging I left off, as I like the shaved look better anyway. Otherwise if you didn't know any better, and I didn't say anything chances are you wouldn't know......I just like giving people who think converting leads to a shioty truck a hard time :D
I'll be moving up to 17" wheels here soon as well as changing some other shiot around to make the truck look nicer (prolly lose the drop as well)......have to see how this summer treats me though.

on the topic of fake SS trucks, i have far seen the worst.....
03 rcsb, hard to tell if it was a zq8 or a 2/3 drop, im not sure of what defines a zq8 in the vin, chrome grille bar, but the usual grey plastic was painted red to match the truck, a set 18s, chrome 5 spoked mags, red bow tie in the grille, stock chevrolet tailgate emblem with the SS badge from a 03+ Silverado SS on the doors and right side of of the tailgate, and no this isnt the one in a recent issue or Truckin (or sport truck, cant remember right now) in the readers rides part, so that means there is possibly two out there

Is it an actual Xtreme or actual SS??? I heard there was a chevy dealer somewhere in NY that in 01 and 02, they took a few v6 xtremes and made their own red Xtreme badges with SS inplace of the bowtie on it. The truck was given a dual exhaust, headers and some were treated with a supercharger and sold as the SSXtreme. I am not 100% sure of the truth behind this, but i saw driving once a truck that had the red SSXtreme badge. I asked some kids about it at a cruise night and the one told me about the dealer options
