I needed a shave.....

So I started shaving stuff.....

First was my tailgate, it turned out not as good as I like, it got hit the day after welding the filler plate in, the top right corner dented and cracked, so I fixed it and when I did it didn't sit into the tailgate enough and now i have a high spot in the middle of the gate... Oh well

Those kidney shaped things are hard drive magnets I used to hold the filler

I dont have any pics of the near finished product

This weekend though, has been door handles

Started with tack welds

Then ground it down

Then a thin coat of mud

Tomorrow I finish the drivers door, mud it, sand then smooth it/glaze it.

I used a computer case for filler plates, couldn't did rough cuts with the angle grinder then shaped them with the bench grinder

And I also go the drivers power mirror hooked up WITH the switch in the stock location... I like it

That is all for tonight

And im thinking this for my paint color

White and blue with a rid pin up the center

Rough cuts of the home made fillers - these were before I ground them smooth on the bench grinde

door prepped for tacking

Tacked and ground, before some hammering and fill

The contours on the door from the left of the handle to the edge of the door actually slope up, so i cut out the hump between the door lock hole and the handle filler and put in a new peice of metal there as well (didn't get pics) The hump was actually higher than the rest of the door..... I could have ground it down, but the metal was so think I didn't want to take many chances, I HATE USING BODY FILLER TO MAKE THINGS MATCH, I wanted to do it the right way

1st and final thin coat of Mud... 1/16 inch thick MAX was then sanded down with 80, then 120, then 220, then 400, glazed some fine scratches and sanded that down with 800.... Overkill but did it anyway

quick primed it then sanded the primer down with 800 then 1000 for a smooth finish, just so I could inspect things, it was dead on, and but straight edge and feel it slopes up to the edge of the door perfectly, with no high or low spots

I also started sanding the cab down

That is all for today... I have 2 evenings to get the truck sanded for primer...... eeeks
