L31 T56 swap questions

search is a hlpful tool but I havent seen anyone who has done this swap yet so I dunno about the answers
ok so reading on 4.3 T56 swaps it appears that to use an LT1 you need to change ALOT of crap over and you also have to redrill the block for the LT1 starter
will this same modification need to be done to an L31 block or will an L31 starter work
I am just starting to do some research on this topic and I am not sure how much difference there is in the flywheel end of the block when comparing a 4.3 and the L30/L31 block

any help anyone can give me I would greatly appreciate

Im doing a 383 swap now with an 87+ 1 piece rear main block. The guy who I bought to motor from had a T56 on it. The starter he had was a CVR protorque. He used an LT1 flywheel. I dunno if any of that helps

i can chime in on a few of these, the only reason the 4.3s need to be redrilled is because the lt1 starter uses a straight across bolt pattern, the 4.3 uses a staggered pattern and needs to be redrilled ( my 93 block had both patterns i think its just a 96> thing) so if the v8 your using has a straight across pattern like this (my 4.3 t56 swap pics by the way) then your fine

also im not quite sure what your asking about the flywheel?

you dont HAVE to run an lt1 tranny you could use an ls1 tranny with an adpater/spacer

list of what you need for a t56 swap

ls1 stye trans
ls1 flywheel/clutch kit or 98 > 4.3 flywheel and clutch kit
adapter plate
shorten drive shaft
ls1 slave cylinder ( i believe it will plug into a 98 > master cylinder line)

lt1 style trans
lt1 flywheel
lt1 clutch kit
slave from a 92 305 5 speed car (exact same as an lt1 slave but with an external bleeder)
92-93 2.8/4.3 master cylinder and a 2.8 line or a rebent 4.3 line ( i used the 4.3 line the first time and rebent it, it worked but im using the 2.8 line second time around)

i think thats it besides modding the crossmember for both applications. the swap is very easy, and there are quite a few on the board that cna help with most any situation you run into

the starter deal is just a '96 up thing

you can buy a starter with the stagered pattern that will work on a 153 tooth flywheel

also note the 2.8L starter has a stagared pattern and i think uses a 153 tooth flywheel. never tried to bolt one up though

ok so lookin at the parts list you provided are you sayin I will have to shorten d/s on an LS1 style
but I wont on a LT1 style
I really wanted to use a LS1 style cuz I can reuse alot more parts
but the whole spacer Idea scares me ALOT
I have NO access to anyway to create 1 OF these

I thought mike and brian (boosted and chevy boy) made brians with a sawzall and a drill press......I saw pics of when thye were making it, and if you have access to a jigsaw or sawzall and a damn die grinder you could make it.

the ls1 trans and the lt2 style trans are the same lenght as an nv3500/4l60e but since the LSX style trans need the spacer/adapter to fit a non gen 3 motor you drive shaft will be 3/4" to long since the trans is pushed back 3/4" inch

also talk to boosted thrills i know he made a spacer/adapter for chevy boys swap
