My exhaust install

Ok guys- I bought some used headers from Doubledown ( nice guy btw )

What they are new and specs :
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Here's my improvements to them so far :

Loose heat shield- welded up
Welded around the EGR tube better
Welded around each primary on the outside of the flange- I still need to grind some of the welds for bolt clearance.
Grinded the inside for better flow
One of the bungs was stripped on the drivers side collector- re tapped the thread and got nicer plugs. I will use high temp anti seize when I screw them in for good.
Grinded the air tube welds- found out they are brazed on. Can’t weld over that.
The Y pipe collector had some cracks and down the middle you could see light through. I welded up the cracks and I just need to grind out the welds smooth.
Once I finish grinding out the other header on the inside- I’m sending them to Jet hot to get ceramic coated and they will look good as new. Then I go to the exhaust shop and get the mid section on the Y pipe fitted and repaired. I also got new donut gaskets for the Y pipe.
I’m going to have 3” from the Y pipe to the muffler. I have a 3” stainless flex pipe that I’ll install before the high flow stainless cat I just got. Followed by a QTP cutout. I will also will have to weld in an O2 bung after the new cat for the third 02 Sensor.
I still need to buy bolts for everything- the headers, Y pipe and collector. Probably use ARP bolts.

anyway- here's some pics :

Edelbrock huh? They look good, I don't think I have ever seen a set of edelbrock up close like that. I was never quite sure how they were laid out. They are going to look great once they are coated.

not to be a dick, but those look like ****, the flow on those things has to be prety ****ty.

i mean seriously the primary tubes neck way down to join together, then the y pipe is sectioned off. i mean seriously, thats gotta cause more back pressure then stock manifolds have

Do you have anything constructive to add? Any ideas on how to improve these flaws? He is obviously putting a lot of work into these and would be open to suggestions on making them better before they are coated.

Thanks John- this is what I'm looking for- how to further improve them. Since I'm sorta on a buget- I couldn't buy a nice new set. I have been trying to do everything I can myself- besides the coating.

i think mark (6spdblzr) is commenting on the flow characteristics (or lack thereof) of the edelbrock header design, not andy's (beast) workmanship and his efforts to clean up and maximize those headers. those welds aren't perfect, but like he said he still needs to dress them and whatnot. i had those same headers on my 4.3 and i switched to hedman longtubes because the edelbrock's probably don't flow much better than a stock exhaust manifold. they look better though.

andy there has to be a local person to you that does ceramic coating. it'd be cheaper than going w/ jet hot. check w/ all of the powder coaters in your area. be sure to specify that you want ceramic coating and NOT hi temp powder.

I had a set of the edelbrock TES headers on my 97 and it made a very significant improvement. Not being a dick either, but I really don't think edelbrock just pushes stuff out the door, think they were tested to show flow / hp improvements.

I'd recommend removing the heat shield over #3 plug and weld the holes, made it close to impossible to change the plug w/o removing the headers.
